Turning an ACL Tear Into a Comeback

A few months ago, Lucy injured her left knee during a bouldering session. Several hospital visits later and an MRI scan showed a torn ACL and radial tear of the meniscus, as well bone bruising, oedema and a small fracture to the femur. This was very bad news at the time. Climbing sits at the centre of our lives and we have spent the whole summer finding alternatives to getting outside. With a surgery date looming, we decided to set a challenge to see if we could link a swim, a paddle and a cycle all in one day in a sort of self-supported triathlon. The aim was to explore the Lake District in a way we hadn’t seen before and to find new experiences during recovery.
